Oakham Select Board Accepts Two Resignations, Sets March Special Town Meeting

OAKHAM — January 20, 2026 — Oakham Select Board scrambles to fill highway and town clerk vacancies after back-to-back resignations. The board voted unanimously Tuesday to accept the resignations of the highway superintendent, effective January 16, and the town clerk, effective January 23, calling the clerk posting "the number one priority" for immediate advertisement. With winter plowing underway and no superintendent in place, the board appointed retired Rutland DPW worker Eric Healy as a part-time seasonal driver on an as-needed basis, authorized roughly $1,200 in emergency truck repairs including a $781.59 injector pressure regulator and a $400 hydraulic hose, and set a $500 threshold requiring Harold, the highway foreman, to seek board approval before larger purchases. Town administrator Maribel will temporarily handle highway payroll and billing, with the board directing she track all additional hours for compensation. A Monday morning work session is scheduled for January 26 at 9 a.m. to develop options for a permanent or interim highway superintendent. The board also set a Special Town Meeting for March 2 at 7 p.m. at Center School on an eminent-domain road article, with the warrant open through January 28.
