Oakham Finance Committee Approves $69,500 in Transfers, Eyes November Override Vote
Finance Committee · Meeting of June 30, 2026
Oakham Finance Committee approves nearly $70,000 in deficit transfers and launches Proposition 2½ override planning. The three-member quorum — newly elected Chair Vincent Piucci, Vice Chair Donald Haapakoski, and Secretary Clare Hendra — voted unanimously to transfer $63,967.29 to cover a snow and ice account deficit, $4,000 for general legal expenses, and $1,500 for unemployment costs at the June 30 meeting. The committee also heard from the Board of Health about a long-overdue third-party inspection of the closed 201 South Road landfill — required under 310 CMR 19.018 and past a 60-day DEP deadline — but deferred action pending an updated quote in fiscal year 27.
The most substantial discussion centered on a working timeline to put a Prop 2½ override before voters in November, with Piucci agreeing to compile 10 years of revenue data by end of July and the absent members Dollinger and Battersby assigned to cost analysis; the committee noted that only about 41 percent of Oakham's land pays the full tax rate.
