Northborough Peasley Building Committee Selects New Construction as Preferred School Option

NORTHBOROUGH — June 10, 2026 — Northborough's Peasley Building Committee voted June 9 to pursue full new construction for Peasley Elementary School, the least expensive of nine studied options, with costs trending in the mid-$90 million range before state reimbursement. Kelly Gannett, chair of the committee's communications subcommittee and a School Committee member since 2018, brought the news to a second municipal board June 10, joined by Ian Sheridan and Janelise of owner's project manager PMA Consultants and architect Kent Kovacs of Flansburg. The Massachusetts School Building Authority is expected to reimburse 47 to 49 percent of eligible project costs, rising to as much as 53 percent if the building meets green energy standards through a planned geothermal system. Addition-renovation alternatives were rejected in part because temporary modular classrooms — estimated at $3.5 million to $4 million — receive no MSBA reimbursement and would have extended construction timelines. The preferred schematic report goes to MSBA by June 25, with a town funding vote targeted for April 2027.
