Millbury board approves manager, police chief salary raises

Millbury Select Board approves raises after closing a $1.6 million budget gap. Chair Mary Krumzik and the board unanimously approved new contract salaries for the town manager and police chief, with Krumzik calling the town manager's offer to defer part of her raise "very selfless." The town manager told the board the regional vocational school assessment came in "11 percent less than last year" after new leadership there cut seven or eight positions, helping the town shift one full-time position to part-time rather than pursue broader layoffs; the School Committee was expected to vote on laying off seven staff the next night. The board also signed off on a $1,440,000 sewer bond note for Warren Street, approved the warrant for the April 28 annual town election, and accepted a $1,000 donation from Susan Gibbons for the Senior Center food pantry.

Board of Health Director Julie Van Ostalen reported "everybody seems to be doing the right thing" on hauler compliance.
