Milford Planning Board grants one-year extension on East Main Street wholesale facility permit

MILFORD — June 16, 2026 — Milford Planning Board extends special permit for East Main Street wholesale project, approves ADU site plan. The board unanimously granted Route 85 Realty Corp. a one-year extension on its special permit for a wholesale facility at 0 East Main Street, accepting the applicant's argument that complex state reviews — including MEPA, a 401 water quality certification, and a MassDOT highway access permit — constituted good cause under the zoning bylaw; attorney Rob Knapik told the board the appeal period on the original permit ran through March 13 of this year. The board also approved, 4-1, a site plan for a 900-square-foot ADU at 26 West Walnut Street, subject to a revised plan showing three required parking spaces and a 4,000-square-foot open space calculation, with one member objecting that the submitted plans were incomplete. In a unanimous ZBA referral, the board recommended approval of a commercial-to-residential conversion at 5355 Congress Street on the condition that two proposed parking spaces on Congress Street near Spruce Street be removed for pedestrian safety. A resident living near 0 East Main Street raised concerns about data centers, citing potential consumption of up to five million gallons of water daily, and the board discussed pursuing a town meeting zoning moratorium this fall.
