Mendon Board of Health Appoints Burial Agent, Renews Scholarship

Mendon Board of Health taps a second burial agent and holds the line on trash costs. Vice Chair Tom Fichtner ran Wednesday's meeting in Chair Alan Greenberg's absence, and the board voted 2-0 alongside member Joyce Gilmore to appoint Rory Crisfield as the town's second burial agent and to renew its $1,000 annual scholarship. Harvey representative Mike Sussman told the board the town has about two years left on its trash disposal contract but warned that recycling now often costs more per ton than regular trash, saying "recycling becomes such a burden when you look at it." Health Agent Colleen Strapponi is inspecting three "evergreen centers" and revisiting the town's blasting regulations, while Health Administrator Jack McLellan flagged a state internship program open through February 6. Bigger items, including the FY27 budget and dumpster regulations, wait for Greenberg's return February 11.
