LUNENBURG — May 12, 2026 — Lunenburg Sewer Commission approves $304,465 quarterly billing and faces new DEP private-sewer documentation deadline. The commission voted 4-0 at its May 12 meeting to approve the quarter-four fiscal year 2026 billing commitment of $304,465.51, with Vice Chair Scott Hall and members Dan Proctor and Chip Wilson present, joined by member Arthur Cadis via text. DPW Director Bill Bernard disclosed a new Massachusetts DEP requirement — added after the town submitted its flood adaptation plan — ordering the town to produce plans, operation-and-maintenance records, and emergency response protocols for privately owned sewer systems, including condominium complexes such as Meadowwood, Drive to Play, and Riley Road, that connect to the municipal network. "They sent us what they wanted. This is new," Bernard said of the requirement, which carries a hard deadline of August 31, 2026. The commission also heard that a drain layer may be able to extend an existing six-inch line roughly 60 feet to connect a property at 100 Laurel Lane for approximately $4,500, and that a dig scheduled for Thursday at 314 Whalem Road aims to resolve whether a long-disputed sewer lateral actually crosses the street to a home whose septic system has failed.
