Auburn library trustees voted to hire a consultant for an $1,800 rebranding and rewrote bylaws stripping the board of hiring and firing power over the library director. Chair Mary K. DeCourcey said "there isn't actually anything in the charter that gives us the power," noting that authority now runs through the town manager's office.
Trustees unanimously accepted consultant Jennifer Dealey's $1,500 branding proposal plus a $300 children's-logo add-on, funded from the Merriam Library Trust. The board also adopted a trimmed, five-page Collections Development Policy tightening reconsideration requests to Auburn residents only, citing a national rise in organized book challenges, and added a shirts-and-shoes requirement to its use policy. Director Michael Zeller reported 10,573 June visitors and a clean fiscal 2026 budget close.
Trustees also approved a noon opening on July 10 for staff CPR training and discussed, without voting, creating a library foundation.
