Mendon Finance Committee reelects its chair, resists losing its power to question department heads. Chair Michael Krager and Vice Chair Carl Hommel were unanimously reelected by roll call, with Tyler Abate named the new recording secretary. Members pushed back on a proposal from the town administrator, identified only as Jeremy, to strike a bylaw provision letting the committee request financial information directly from department heads, favoring routing requests through his office instead.
Krager warned he would "resign from the finance committee immediately" if it were reduced to a rubber-stamp role, saying it could otherwise "be replaced by an Excel spreadsheet." Member Jesse Curll reported the town is paying interest on roughly $9 million in still-unspent regional school district capital borrowing tied to delayed roof and field projects, and presented a new spreadsheet comparing electric and gas vehicle costs for the town fleet. The committee also floated a $100,000 addition for road paving ahead of the November Special Town Meeting.
