Hubbardston Council on Aging Unanimously Approves $3,300 Non-Slip Walkway Safety Project

HUBBARDSTON — July 15, 2026 — Hubbardston's Council on Aging voted unanimously to spend $3,300 on a non-slip surface treatment for the senior center's exterior walkways, funding the project from the center's own gift account after Director Claudia Preventel said the town would not pay for it. The board also learned the town reduced its annual operating appropriation to the center from $6,000 to $4,000 — a $2,000 cut — restructuring the allocation into a $3,000 repairs-and-maintenance line plus two $500 lines for supplies and unclassified items. Treasurer Ken Horvath reported the center's retained accounts are in solid shape: the gift account holds $15,772.12, the formula grant account $18,903.67, and the arts grant account $141.94. The board finalized plans for a public celebration event on July 19 — hot dogs, singers, and a $50 sheet cake — confirmed a September 25-27 holiday yard sale, and set candidates nights for August 5 and October 14 ahead of the state primary and general election.
