Council on Aging · Meeting of October 14, 2026
Mendon's Council on Aging adopted new eligibility rules for the town's oldest-resident recognition and absorbed the departures of two longtime board members. The board voted 4-0 by roll call, with Diane Howell, Phil Cieply, Ann Vandersluis and Carol Kotros in favor, to require date-of-birth verification through town records and at least 10 years of Mendon residency for the designation. Board member Peg Noguera, citing 20 years of service and her approaching 84th birthday, said "I do think it's time to get some new blood" in announcing her resignation effective immediately, alongside a second departing officer identified only as Earl, who cited over 15 years on the board.
Director Amy separately told the board she plans to retire November 13 after nearly 19 years, training a successor identified as Michelle. A tabled van-hygiene policy, which would let the director restrict a rider's transportation access over sanitation concerns, was tabled again after a member said an earlier related complaint "has not" been rectified.
