Board of Health · Meeting of October 6, 2026

Berlin's Board of Health approved a new septic permit for a Boylston Road lot with no variances needed. Health Agent William Brookings told the board the town will ask the upcoming town meeting for $62,000 to fund engineering for the next phase of landfill test-well monitoring, including gas, methane and water quality testing. The board conditionally approved a reduced well setback at 52 Gates Pond Road, pending confirmation it sits at least 100 feet from a neighbor's septic system.

Members also pushed for a firm repair schedule from a 227 Pleasant Street owner over unfinished electrical work, calling the board's prior letter to her "a little too much editorializing." Brookings said he would press DEP to share corrective-action details on the separate Hudson landfill, after the agency called its technical summary "deficient," citing nearby drinking-water wells. A general store's possible lapsed tobacco permit also drew scrutiny ahead of a potential compliance check.
