BARRE — The Barre Finance Committee learned the town has no financial policy, no wage plan and no active capital improvement committee, as a budget preparer identified only as Melody walked members through a draft fiscal 2027 budget. Melody said, "We're not following a wage plan. We have nothing," and separately warned that without a capital plan, "there's just no structure to anything." The town still lacks debt schedules for two outstanding obligations and must secure USDA financing for a wastewater upgrade before April 15.
The Council on Aging must decide by its Feb. 2 meeting whether to keep the Barre-Hardwick Senior Center regional after the interlocal agreement lapsed, with $9,000 in a vacant outreach coordinator line "questionable" until then. The Wachusett Greenway group asked for its usual $1,100 annual town contribution. The committee approved its Jan. 6 minutes and moved its Feb. 17 session to Feb. 24.
