Warren's Finance Committee reviewed three competing fiscal 2027 school budget options, including closing West Brookfield's elementary school, at its March 26 meeting. School officials Nikki Gonzalez and Steve Duff said closing the building would hold Warren's above-minimum school contribution to about $523,000, versus $1.1 million under a grade-reconfiguration plan or as much as $1.6 million under a level-funded option keeping both buildings open. One committee member called the closure plan "the only realistic option that we have at the moment" and floated an $808,000 compromise.
Resident Peter Carlson urged the board to promise any unspent funds from a $300,000 senior center HVAC project "go back to the taxpayers." The committee also recommended $500 for the Clowning for Kids Foundation, $35,000 for a police cruiser reserve and $14,000 for summer fireworks.
