Douglas Recreation Commission Approves $2,075 Spending on Courts, Fields, and Park Amenities

DOUGLAS — May 5, 2026 — Douglas Recreation Commission unanimously approves $2,075 in end-of-year spending across five items. The five-member board, meeting Tuesday, allocated $200 for fire equipment inspections at recreation facilities, $300 for a polyethylene picnic table near the town hall basketball and pickleball court, $400 for volleyball court poles and hardware at Martin Road, $325 for yellow paint to finish the outfield fence at Soldiers Field, and $850 toward a $1,700 water heater replacement in the Soldiers Field concession stand — with the Douglas Youth Baseball and Softball League covering the balance. Greg Bernard, varsity volleyball coach at Douglas High School, presented a preliminary proposal to restore the Martin Road beach volleyball court, with total costs estimated at $800 to $900 including sand and a new net; the commission will revisit full sand funding in July. Nick Nason of the Youth Baseball and Softball League also outlined a longer-range small-field renovation at Soldiers Field with an existing quote of $41,000 from VIB Landscaping, directing him to contact Town Administrator Matt Wojcik about the formal procurement process before seeking updated bids from two additional vendors.
