Douglas Heritage Committee Advances Memorial Day and 250th Anniversary Event Plans

DOUGLAS — March 19, 2026 — Douglas Heritage and Honor Committee advances planning for spring parades and a 250th anniversary block party. The committee, meeting March 19, confirmed a Memorial Day Parade on May 23, an Independence Day Parade on June 27, and a block-party celebration at Soldiers Field, while welcoming new member Meg Schlesman. A UniPay online donation account launched less than a week before the meeting was described as already attracting significant activity; donors of $50 or more receive a numbered challenge coin and certificate. Members discussed tiered business sponsorship levels tentatively set at $100, $250, and $500, and a Hometown Hero veterans banner program — with individual banners costing approximately $100 each — pending utility approvals from National Grid and Verizon. A site visit to Soldiers Field is scheduled for March 28, and the committee's next formal meeting is April 2.
