Clinton School Committee Approves Warrant Articles to Fund Special Education Reserve

CLINTON — April 13, 2026 — Clinton School Committee votes to send three warrant articles, including a $500,000 special education stabilization fund, to Town Meeting. The committee voted unanimously Monday to authorize Superintendent Dr. Steven Meyer to submit the articles ahead of an April 15 deadline, as part of a strategy to hold the district's fiscal year 2027 budget request to $33,880,898 — a $1.964 million increase driven almost entirely by a $1.5 million jump in out-of-district special education tuition from three new residential placements. Two of the articles shift $350,000 in one-time costs — $100,000 for technology and $250,000 to bridge a circuit breaker reimbursement gap — from the operating budget to free cash, keeping the total ask from the town unchanged. The third article creates the stabilization fund and seeds it with $500,000, giving the district a reserve to draw on without waiting for Town Meeting if unexpected tuition placements arise mid-year. The committee also voted unanimously to set school choice limits, keeping pre-K through grade 4 closed to new students, opening kindergarten to four slots, and offering five slots per grade in grades 5 through 12. Meyer was named Outstanding Superintendent of the Year at the Massachusetts State PTA convention, where Clinton PTA member Becky was installed as Massachusetts PTA president-elect.
