Town Meeting asked to approve $783,000 Blake Street Park and parking lot project

Northborough Town Meeting will vote on a $783,000 Community Preservation Act request to overhaul Blake Street Pocket Park and part of the adjacent municipal parking lot. John Campbell, representing the Community Preservation Committee, presented the project as one of three CPA articles on the warrant, saying the committee found all three met state and local eligibility criteria and showed high community support. The Blake Street proposal — a scaled-back version of an $850,000 plan floated last year — was reduced in scope on curbs and fencing, a change Campbell credited to Town Planner Lori Connors.

The funds would pay for new concrete walkways, a mural fence blocking an unsafe railroad crossing used by middle school students, a pergola and seating wall, rain gardens to address chronic parking-lot flooding, reconstruction of roughly one-third of the municipal lot, one net new parking space, and an ADA-accessible crosswalk connecting the lot to the anticipated redevelopment site at 4 West Main Street.
