Berlin Library Board unanimously approves LED lighting upgrade and new Library of Things policy. The board voted July 13 to authorize use of state aid funds for an LED lighting project recommended in a Berlin Energy Commission audit, at a net estimated cost of roughly $4,000 after a $2,000 state incentive, with projected annual savings of $1,126 and a payback period of about three years. Library Director Victoria said she will consult with the town administrator to confirm the funding pathway before the state incentive deadline in October.

The board also adopted a new Library of Things policy eliminating the existing $25-per-day overdue fine for specialty items such as telescopes and laser levels, replacing it with a system in which a replacement-cost charge appears on a patron's account while an item is overdue but disappears upon return. A longer-term heat pump replacement estimated at $150,000 was deferred to a future Energy Commission grant cycle.
