Leominster opens downtown parking garage, unveils FY27 budget
LEOMINSTER — The city's new downtown public parking garage is open, City Hall announced, arriving alongside the release of Mayor Dean Mazzarella's fiscal year 2027 budget for public review and fresh progress updates on the Monoosnoc Brook Stabilization Project.
TOWN HALL The Downtown Public Parking Garage has opened to the public, according to a City Hall announcement, adding parking capacity in the downtown business district. Mayor Dean Mazzarella has released his proposed fiscal year 2027 municipal budget, which residents can now review on the city's website. City Hall also posted an update on the Monoosnoc Brook Stabilization Project, part of an ongoing effort to shore up the waterway, along with new FAQ guidance for residents operating home-based businesses and for the Flamingo Express program.
SCHOOLS Leominster Public Schools posted a notice on its website flagging important information for families related to First Student, the district's bus contractor. The district is also taking names for its 2026-2027 preschool waitlist: Bennett Preschool is accepting tuition-based peer slots for children who will be age three by August 31, and families can call the preschool office to join the list.
COMMUNITY & ARTS The Leominster Public Library has two arts and history programs on the calendar next week: "Hikes Through History" runs Wednesday, July 22, from 6 to 7 p.m., and local artist Gregory Maichack leads a Chalk Pastel Seahorse Painting session for teens Thursday, July 23, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Downtown, the city's community events calendar lists Bohemian Night at Carter Park (Noche Bohemia) for Saturday, July 18.
COMING UP The city's Downtown Sounds concert series continues Friday, July 17, and Saturday, July 18, with a Final Soccer Watch Party set for Sunday, July 19. The Planning Board meets Monday, July 20, followed by the Cemetery Commission on Tuesday, July 21; the library's adult Chess Club meets both of those evenings, and its English Conversation Class and Literary Leominster Book Club both fall on Tuesday, July 21, alongside a Teen Tournament Tuesday session. The Sholan Farms Cruising and Crops Festival is set for Wednesday, July 22, and a Starbucks ribbon-cutting is scheduled for Thursday, July 23, the same day the library hosts a "Wild Robot" Movie Thursday for teens. Downtown Sounds returns again Friday, July 24.
