Berlin Finance Committee Approves $8,800 in Internal Transfers Unanimously

BERLIN — July 15, 2026 — Berlin Finance Committee unanimously approves $8,800 in internal budget transfers at July 15 meeting. The four-member panel, voting 4 to 0 on each item, recommended three transfers from a Chapter 32B health insurance account carrying an estimated $70,000 surplus generated by lower-than-expected employee health costs. The largest transfer, $3,800, covers Medicare payroll tax obligations triggered by a series of retirements and resignations that also required vacation payout costs beyond the original budget. A $1,500 transfer covers salary wages in the treasury and tax collector's office following the departure of the assistant treasurer and the hiring of a temporary replacement. A third transfer of $3,500 addresses a public buildings electricity bill that came in above projections. Town staff identified as June told the committee the Select Board had already approved all three transfers at its Monday meeting. The combined $8,800 draw leaves the Chapter 32B surplus largely intact.
