Auburn Planning Board approves CABI site plan for Albert Street autism school

AUBURN — January 27, 2026 — Auburn's Planning Board unanimously approved a site plan revision allowing the Center for Applied Behavioral Instruction to operate a nonprofit autism school at 16 Albert Street. Attorney Matt Eckle of Fletcher Tilton appeared on behalf of CABI, which also runs a larger facility on Greenwood Street serving roughly 88 students. Eckle told the board that no exterior changes are planned at the 3.4-acre highway business site and that the fire department and building inspector raised no objections after a site walk. Board members pressed on traffic, and CABI's Dr. Brian Doyle said students would arrive in small vans of three to six, generating far less activity than the building's prior office tenants. The written decision is to be signed at the February 10 meeting, at which the board will also revisit a stalled two-building addition request at 282 Sulbridge Street and a modification at 15 Hardscrabble Road, both continued for lack of applicant readiness.
