Auburn Board of Health declares one dog dangerous, two nuisance, and upholds tobacco fine. The board voted unanimously July 22 to classify Tuxedo, a Lab-Boxer mix at 12 Pine Valley Drive, as a dangerous dog after the animal broke through a screen door on June 10 and fatally attacked a neighbor's greyhound, Tiger; owner Christine Apple, who paid approximately $6,000 in veterinary bills, must now muzzle Tuxedo off her property and install secure confinement with locking gates. Two dogs at 15 Murray Ave., Milu and Luna, were declared nuisance animals with a 30-day fence repair deadline.

On tobacco enforcement, the board upheld a $5,000 fine and a 30-day permit suspension — September 1 through September 30 — against In-Style Galaxy Newsstand at 385 Southbridge Street for a third tobacco control violation, while continuing a fourth violation hearing, which could result in permanent permit revocation, to the next meeting after owner Harry Harjani failed to appear. Animal Control Officer Tanya Corbo, describing the tobacco pattern, said the Tobacco Control Alliance's Joan Hamlet called it the most egregious noncompliance she has seen in 33 years across more than 500 retailers.
