Zoning board continues Ponton Road appeal, approves Westwood Drive addition
Zoning Board · Meeting of February 25, 2026
Sturbridge Zoning Board of Appeals continues a contested Ponton Road commercial-use appeal after the building inspector no-shows. Chair Diane Trapasso and Vice Chair Fidelis Onwubueke opened the hearing on an appeal filed by attorney Spencer Joseph Caron on behalf of Patricia McCleary of 17 Plimpton Avenue, challenging the building inspector's refusal to enforce zoning bylaws against an alleged commercial use at 20 Ponton Road. With the inspector absent, the board continued the matter without testimony to March 4.
Members also unanimously granted a determination to Joanna and Jeffrey Shapiro of 50 Westwood Drive for a 5-by-10-foot entry addition and an expanded 12-by-20-foot deck, including a 12-by-15-foot enclosed three-season room. Shapiro cited the area's "high mosquito population around Cedar Lake" as motivation for enclosing the space.
