WESTBOROUGH — The Westborough Zoning Board of Appeals voted unanimously to continue a zoning appeal hearing to December 7 after residents raised concerns about drones and procedural transparency. Chestnut Street resident Fahini Kaufman raised drone-related national security concerns, which a board member said were "not pertinent to what we're doing right now" in the quasi-judicial proceeding. Alan Brewer of 18 Moore Street asked whether Amazon would be "grandfathered in" under old zoning rules; a board member said the question involved a general bylaw outside the board's jurisdiction and noted the application was being withdrawn.
Nora Plowman of 4 Eli Whitney Street questioned the board's definition of "accessory use" as it relates to drones, saying "this process has lacked transparency." The board directed residents toward the planning board's bylaw amendment process ahead of the March town meeting. The board adjourned after no one spoke during open forum.
