Worcester youth arrests fall 47 percent as violence-prevention coordinator job sits vacant. A Division of Youth Opportunities official identified as Raquel told the Youth Advisory Commission the city paused reposting the coordinator role, last held by a staffer called Frankie, while reviewing it for potential cost savings, with a decision expected within days. Police data presented by a member identified as Jen showed youth arrests down 47 percent in June and July compared with 2025, though arrests among 18-to-24-year-olds rose 14 percent.
The city applied to the state's Shannon grant program to recover a $300,000 funding cut from last year and will fund 11 community subgrantees, including two applications from Legendary Legacies. "I just want to say that we have trended down drastically from last year to this year," Raquel said. School discipline data showed Worcester's 4.82 percent rate below Springfield's but with out-of-school suspensions rising to 3.3 percent of students.
