Other Committee · Meeting of September 15, 2026

Worcester's Accessibility Advisory Commission reviews a year of accommodation and language-access gains while saying goodbye to a departing member. Director of Human Rights and Accessibility Patricia LaFour told the panel the city's reasonable-accommodation program has "at least quadrupled" in participation since her office centralized and confidentialized the process, with about 99 percent of cases resolved successfully. The city also raised its "Welcome America" immigrant-policy audit score from two stars to three stars after challenging the initial review, and expanded language access, including American Sign Language via LanguageLine, into the Worcester Police and Fire departments and pre-employment medical physicals.

Members voted 5-0 twice, approving minutes from April and July and adjourning at 4:46 p.m. Departing member Kate McGrath, thanked for her work on ADA-accessible park events, called them "really tremendous" before reading her final round of commission announcements, including an October 20 meeting date and a December 8 WRTA Paratransit Rider Forum.
