Westminster Select Board Backs MassDOT Roundabout, Approves Town App and Staffing Plan

ASHBURNHAM — June 29, 2026 — Westminster backs state-funded Route 2A roundabout, approves mobile app and staffing overhaul. The Westminster Select Board voted unanimously Monday to support a MassDOT-funded roundabout at the Depot Road and Route 2A intersection, ending years of town advocacy for a traffic light that state officials declined to approve. Town Administrator Stephanie told the board that every department head and the town's state legislative delegation had pushed for signalization, but MassDOT's traffic study did not meet the agency's signalization metrics — and at one point MassDOT asked town officials to stop lobbying. The project is programmed in the State Transportation Improvement Program for 2030 at no cost to the town. The board also authorized a one-year, $5,600 contract with GoGov to build a customized Westminster mobile app offering residents customizable push, text, email, and phone notifications on town business, and adopted a new strategic staffing policy replacing a process for creating new positions that had been in place since roughly 2004, establishing an annual five-year rolling review cycle modeled on the town's capital planning framework.
