Southbridge Town Council Awards $39,000 Fire Station Commissioning Contract to WSP USA

Southbridge Town Council unanimously awarded a $39,000 building commissioning contract for the new fire station and extended its water system operator agreement at its January 12 meeting. The council voted to hire WSP USA for mechanical and HVAC commissioning services, the lowest of three bids received; the budget line item was $70,000, leaving the project roughly $30,000 under budget on that item alone. Total fire station expenditures to date stand at $8,489,073.75, with $137,872 remaining in contingency before the town would draw on a separately reserved $1 million in free cash.

The council also authorized the town manager to give contractual notice to Whitewater Incorporated of intent to extend the water system operations contract for five additional years, confirmed John Glennon's appointment to the airport commission through June 30, 2028, and approved two salary reserve transfers totaling $12,406.80. Councilor Chenier read aloud a trespass notice issued to him and his wife by SREC Southbridge LLC, the owner of Lebanon Hill Housing, and vowed to continue advocating for low-income tenants at that development through the town manager.
