Southbridge Conservation Commission continues wetland enforcement hearing to April 30

SOUTHBRIDGE — April 16, 2026 — Southbridge Conservation Commission reviewed a wetland restoration plan tied to a 2023 enforcement order at its April 16 meeting. The commission examined a report by Northeast Ecological Services recommending a multi-step removal of sediment deposited in an estimated 10,500 square feet of bordering vegetated wetland and vernal pool on property owned by Robert Dixon, damage traced to grading activities at an adjacent subdivision. Sediment depths in the affected area ranged from several inches to more than 12 inches, according to the NES inspection conducted earlier this month. Members emphasized that the source of erosion must be stabilized before any in-wetland remediation begins, and noted that the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's involvement may require the commission to amend its existing enforcement order. The hearing was continued to April 30, 2026.
