Southborough School Committee Backs 3.99 Percent FY27 Budget Increase

SOUTHBOROUGH — January 22, 2026 — Southborough School Committee approves 3.99 percent FY27 budget increase ahead of cross-board review. The committee voted 4-0 at a special January 22 meeting to support the revised recommended operational budget, incorporating late adjustments including a reduction in applied Circuit Breaker reimbursement from $500,000 to $300,000, restoration of facilities accounts, the addition of a 42nd instructional section placed in grade three, and a reduction in at least one out-of-district tuition. The superintendent described it as "a level services budget" with "some compromises." The capital plan, voted the prior week, consolidates security upgrades ($1.4 million across four schools), technology improvements ($360,000), and the Trottier Middle School roof replacement — estimated at just under $8.9 million gross, with a projected 41 percent MSBA reimbursement — all into FY27, with an April town meeting vote required on the full gross amount.
