Shrewsbury Town Meeting Embraces Electronic Voting for 37-Article Annual Warrant

SHREWSBURY — May 13, 2026 — Shrewsbury town meeting members practiced electronic voting Wednesday ahead of a 37-article annual town meeting set for Monday, May 18. Town Moderator Jim Kane, presiding over the annual pre-town meeting orientation, led members through five sample votes using wireless remote clickers individually assigned by precinct, with results displayed on a live scoreboard. Town Clerk Sharon outlined a new two-step check-in — members first collect materials and a sticker, then receive their clicker at a second table — and asked members to arrive early. Five of the 37 warrant articles require two-thirds supermajority votes, including two easement articles (23 and 24), a proposed special-purpose stabilization fund (Article 33), and a land conveyance involving a prior order of taking (Article 35). Superintendent Sawyer is slated to present the school department budget; McGoldrick will handle Community Preservation Act articles. Sample vote tallies Wednesday ranged from 33 to 53 participants, with one test question finishing 33 to 21.
