Shrewsbury Select Board Approves Dealer Licenses, Hears State Budget Figures for FY27

SHREWSBURY — July 14, 2026 — Shrewsbury Select Board hears state budget briefing, approves dealer licenses and committee appointments. Senator Michael Moore and Representative Hannah Kane reported to the board Tuesday that Shrewsbury will receive $23,420,930 in Chapter 70 education aid — up $933,000, or 4.2 percent — and $3,670,563 in unrestricted general government aid under the $63.4 billion fiscal year 2027 state budget. Local earmarks include $500,000 for Veterans, Inc., $250,000 for a firefighter cancer screening program, and $30,000 for athletic light upgrades at Dean Park and the Coolidge Pickleball Court. The board approved new garage and Class II sales licenses for Metro West Motorcars at 882 Boston Turnpike and authorized Foley Infiniti to store up to 50 vehicles at 727 Hartford Turnpike. The Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging Committee presented a semiannual report and a recommendation that the town adopt a welcoming community policy limiting how employees may engage with immigration enforcement; the board took the letter under consideration without a vote. The board also made six committee appointments, renewed an animal control agreement with Westborough and Grafton through June 30, 2027, and approved a Cherry Street road closure for utility work July 21 and 22.
