Other Committee · Meeting of September 9, 2026

Shrewsbury facilities panel leans toward new prefab DPW building over renovating 1950s garage. Cost consultants told the Municipal Facilities Optimization Committee that renovating the existing roughly 20,200-square-foot water and sewer garage at 207 South Street would cost about $434 per square foot, just $40 less than the $473 rate used for the $30.7 million new-construction design approved in 2025. Consultant Ryan told the panel the full renovation-plus-addition option lands within about $100,000 of new construction, adding, "This isn't fat by a million dollars.

This is there's design that was never done." Members said they want the final project closer to $25 million and discussed trimming the DPW's 65,000-square-foot space program to get there. The committee separately approved a $2,623 invoice from Vertex Companies, 3-0, and set its next meeting for October 28 at 6 p.m. to review reconciled cost estimates expected around October 22.
