Shrewsbury Conservation Commission Approves After-the-Fact Tennis Court With Wetland Conditions

SHREWSBURY — March 17, 2026 — Shrewsbury Conservation Commission issues after-the-fact order allowing tennis court built in wetland buffer at 124 Memorial Drive. The commission voted unanimously to issue an order of conditions permitting the existing court owned by Shreya Trevera, based on a notice of intent presented by Kate Wilkins of Epitech showing 824 square feet of permanent vegetated wetland fill, offset by 1,863 square feet of wetland replication at a 2.25-to-1 ratio and 1,941 square feet of restoration — totaling 3,804 square feet of wetland returned to the site. Conditions include chain-link fencing with signage reading "Wetland Resource Area — No Dumping — Per Order of Shrewsbury Conservation Commission," a three-year monitoring period for the replication planting area, submission of revised plans showing new buffer zones before any work begins, and a hard cap prohibiting any future riverfront disturbance beyond the existing 8.5 percent of the lot's roughly 90,000-square-foot riverfront area. The commission also approved a negative determination allowing removal of approximately 11 diseased trees at 109 Hartford Turnpike, conditioned on replanting at least two native trees and six blueberry shrubs, and continued the long-running MassDOT Route 20 shared-use path hearing to April 21 after the town's new engineer requested time to review revised stormwater plans. A 1970s-era certificate of compliance at 66 and 104 Main Street was withheld after staff confirmed the property owner never built a required stormwater basin.
