Rutland Conservation Commission Unanimously Adopts Long-Awaited Local Wetland Regulations

Rutland's Conservation Commission unanimously adopted local wetland regulations at its May 19 meeting, capping a months-long drafting process. Chair Melissa Danza led the unanimous vote to issue the regulations as written, subject to correction of a single known but unlocated scrivenor error, after the commission closed a public hearing on the document the same evening. The new rules set fees at $150 for single-family residential applications not part of a larger development, $100 for commercial amended orders of conditions, and $50 for residential amended orders.

Also Tuesday, the commission closed a notice of intent hearing for a Ridge Road single-family lot with a special condition requiring large boulders along the driveway at the 25-foot wetland buffer, and voted to recommend the reappointment of member Glenda Williamson. During public comment, Todd Varney of 89 Glenwood Road urged the commission to issue a stop work order over slope and watershed concerns at 95 Glenwood Road, but commission members confirmed they hold no jurisdiction under the state Watershed Protection Act, which has governed that site through multiple DEP reviews since 2022.
