Parks Commission Files Updates on Four Projects
Parks and Recreation · Meeting of September 24, 2026
Worcester Parks Commission files updates on four park projects, leaves a renaming and a records request open. Commissioners Ciacciaroni, Daugherty, Serrato, Stratton and Turner voted unanimously to file status reports on the Newton Hill at Elm Park and Worcester Common master plans, both due back in October with near-final designs, as well as construction updates at the South Worcester playground and Lakeview Park, both targeting 2027 completions. The panel approved its June 30 minutes 4-0 with one abstention.
Staff said the city will seek new aquatics-services proposals after completing a three-year YMCA lifeguard contract, calling the arrangement "phenomenal" despite water-quality closures at Coes Pond and Indian Lake. Carly Miller, treasurer of Park Spirit of Worcester, told the commission it will mark "one full year" since her group's parkland-use records request if it carries to October without a city legal response. A renaming request for the Great Brook Valley Playground in honor of Roberto Clemente remains unresolved.
The commission also confirmed it currently has no sitting chairperson.
