Millbury School Committee votes to continue school choice at 45 seats

School Committee · Meeting of March 12, 2026

Millbury School Committee votes 4-0 to renew school choice at 45 seats for 2026-2027. Chairperson Christopher Wilbur's committee heard from Assistant Business Manager Patrick Mara that the School of Choice Revolving Account holds $125,860.70. Assistant Superintendent Richard Bedard reported Junior/Senior High School roof and HVAC filed sub-bids came in "altogether $2 million less than our estimates" against the $19.7 million appropriated project, with general contractor bids due March 18.

The committee introduced new School Resource Officer Frank Piscitelli, a 23-year Millbury police veteran, and gave preliminary approval for a sixth-grade Nature's Classroom trip tentatively set for September 23-25. Officials also said fewer FY27 budget cuts than previously feared may be needed, with details due March 26.
