Millbury launches GetSetUp digital literacy program for seniors
MILLBURY — The town has launched a new resource to help older residents get more comfortable with technology, one of several items topping a light news day that also included a call for volunteers on the Conservation Commission and a return date for the weekly Farmers Market.
TOWN HALL The town announced a new program for seniors built around GetSetUp, a platform that lets older adults learn technology skills live and on-demand alongside other older adults, according to a News Flash posted to the town website. The town did not detail how residents can enroll, but pointed readers to further information via the announcement.
Separately, the Conservation Commission is looking to fill a vacancy on its board, according to the town's News Flash feed. The commission oversees protection of the town's wetlands, lakes, ponds and streams, and the town is inviting interested residents to get involved.
The Millbury Farmers Market continues its run at the Asa Waters Mansion, with the town's News Flash confirming another market date on July 16, featuring local vendors and live entertainment.
SCHOOLS Millbury Public Schools notified sixth-grade families that the cost of this fall's Nature's Classroom trip will drop by $50 per student, crediting the reduction to the class's fundraising efforts this past June, according to a district news post.
The district also posted several policy updates ahead of the 2026-27 school year, including an updated cell phone and earbud policy, new student parking guidelines, and a revised attendance policy. The district did not publish further specifics on any of the three changes in the items reviewed. Elmwood Street School's Shaw building also posted updated office hours for this week.
COMMUNITY & ARTS The Millbury Public Library's summer reading program remains open to all ages through August 8, with participants signing up to read, earn prizes and attend registered special events, according to the library's website. The library also flagged that "Digital Navigators" are now available on hand at certain times to help patrons with smartphones, printing and downloading library e-books, with formal classes to follow.
COMING UP The Cemetery Commission meets Monday, July 20. The Board of Assessors and the Dog Park Committee, meeting by Zoom only, are both scheduled for Tuesday, July 21.
