Millbury launches GetSetUp digital literacy program for seniors
MILLBURY — The town is rolling out a new digital literacy program for older residents, the Conservation Commission is seeking a volunteer to fill a vacancy, and the Millbury Public Library's summer reading program is running through August 8, according to town, school and library updates posted this week.
TOWN HALL The town has launched a new program for seniors called GetSetUp, aimed at improving digital literacy among older residents. The platform allows participants to learn live and on-demand alongside other older adults, according to the town's News Flash.
Separately, the town's Conservation Commission is looking to fill a vacancy. Residents interested in helping protect Millbury's wetlands, lakes, ponds and streams are encouraged to apply, the town said.
The Millbury Farmers Market continues at the Asa Waters Mansion on July 16, featuring local vendors and live entertainment.
SCHOOLS Millbury Public Schools notified sixth-grade families that the cost of attending Nature's Classroom this fall will drop by $50 per student, thanks to participation in a June fundraiser. Updated pricing was expected to follow.
The district also posted several policy updates ahead of the 2026-27 school year, including an updated cell phone and earbud policy, new student parking guidelines and an update to the attendance policy. District officials directed families to the ParentSquare app for ongoing updates.
COMMUNITY & ARTS The Millbury Public Library's summer reading program is underway for all ages through August 8, with prizes for reading and a slate of special events requiring separate registration.
The library also introduced "Digital Navigators," staff on hand at certain times to help patrons with smartphones, printing and downloading e-books, with classes to follow. And the library highlighted a media literacy resource, "How to Spot a Fake: AI and Fake News," part of the NewsGuard Academy video series on identifying false claims and AI-generated content online.
COMING UP The Cemetery Commission meets Monday, July 20. The Board of Assessors and the Dog Park Committee, meeting by Zoom, both convene Tuesday, July 21. The School Committee Policy Subcommittee meets Thursday, July 23.
