Fitchburg extends landfill sticker deadline, declares tourism marketing district

FITCHBURG — City Hall this week extended the deadline for annual landfill stickers to September 30, posted formal notice that it has organized a Fitchburg Tourism Destination Marketing District, and alerted residents to a change at a polling location ahead of upcoming voting.

The city posted an emergency alert on its website extending the deadline to buy yearly landfill stickers from its original date to September 30, giving residents more time before enforcement kicks in at the transfer station.

Separately, the city posted formal notice of "the declaration of the organization of the Fitchburg Tourism Destination Marketing District," a step toward establishing a dedicated tourism-promotion body for the city; the notice did not detail the district's boundaries or funding structure.

The city also posted a Spanish-language notice, "Cambios en el Lugar de Votación," alerting residents to a change in voting location, and flagged ongoing "Intown Downtown Infrastructure Updates," though neither posting included further detail. Separately, the city is asking residents to weigh in on the Fitchburg-Leominster Housing Production Plan, now in progress, through an online survey posted to the city's site.
