Millbury conservation board funds half of Eagle Scout project

Millbury Conservation Commission funds half an Eagle Scout project, holds off on trout stocking. The board unanimously agreed to cover up to $1,350 of Troop 22 Scout Nathan Decatur's $2,700 bench-and-tree installation at Briarly Pond, with member Paul DiCicco moving that the commission "complete the balance upon his raising the money himself." Separately, resident Matthew Ashmankas pitched stocking 100 brook trout each in Ramshorn Brook and Briarly Pond, warning that nearby Watchwood Brook "last year I found four trout, this year I found zero", but the board tabled a vote to May 6 pending confirmation of state permitting rules. Four wetlands hearings, including a Lake Singletary herbicide-treatment plan and a Southwest Cutoff redevelopment, were continued to May 6 and May 20.

The commission also declined to pursue enforcement on a nearly two-year-old compliance case at 8 Primrose Road, instead inviting the owner back for a May update.
