Millbury board votes to enter closed session on police contract

Select Board · Meeting of May 26, 2026

Millbury Select Board honors a wounded SWAT sergeant, then votes to negotiate a new police contract behind closed doors. State Rep. Paul Frost and an aide to Sen.

Michael Moore presented legislative citations to Sergeant Keith Gasco, injured in February responding to a standoff in Spencer as part of a regional task force. Wildlife rehabilitator Susan Siegel of Return to Wild told the board roughly 500,000 pounds of rodenticide are used annually in Massachusetts and warned "it does not work," urging the board to consider restricting rat poison on municipal property as roughly 25 other towns have done. The board then voted 3-0, with one member recused, to enter executive session under state open-meeting law to discuss bargaining strategy for the Millbury Police Department's successor union contract.
