Milford School Committee Unanimously Approves $81.4 Million FY27 Budget
MILFORD — May 7, 2026 — Milford School Committee unanimously approved an $81.4 million operating budget for fiscal year 2027 at its May 7 meeting, locking in a 2.27 percent spending increase after months of negotiations pared back an initial proposal that had called for 8 to 9 percent growth. Superintendent Craig told the committee the final figure — roughly $3 million above the prior year — required staffing reductions tied to declining enrollment and cuts to planned initiatives. The committee also awarded an elementary custodial services contract to Dynamic Janitorial Cleaning Incorporated, a Milford-based company whose bid was approximately $36,000 below that of incumbent vendor CleanCo, yielding an estimated $9,000 savings in the first year alone, with level pricing locked in for years two and three. Community Use Director Chris Burns reported the program's revolving account stands at $227,425 with annual revenue of $1,010,044.08, and the committee unanimously approved a new governing policy — file KF — expanding Burns's operational authority, while retiring two older, more prescriptive policies. The incoming kindergarten class currently numbers 285 students, with the superintendent projecting a final count in the 300 to 315 range and noting that up to 45 percent could qualify as English learners.
