Milford School Committee approves $1 million in warrants and grants

School Committee · Meeting of January 22, 2026

Milford School Committee hears sharp high school attendance gains and approves nearly $1 million in warrants. The committee unanimously passed a consent agenda totaling $906,234.44 in warrants, $87,129 in grants, $7,202.14 in professional development, and $754 in gifts at its January 22 meeting. Attendance supervisor Dale reported that chronic absenteeism dropped as many as 10.8 percentage points in some high school grades compared to last year, with roughly 340 interventions completed to date and no students currently in the court referral process; K-8 supervisor Victor Canino put districtwide chronic absenteeism at 15.6 percent through January 16, down from 17.2 percent at year-end 2024-25.

New Transportation Director Lauren Smith, six months on the job, flagged more than 1,000 address-change emails since September and floated a voluntary bus registration system to manage route ridership, while a committee member urged district leadership to consult town counsel on the liability exposure of owning district vans. Superintendent Craig Olivo reported that a K-2 classroom safety task force has met twice since December and is working toward a standardized crisis-response protocol and a new social-emotional learning curriculum, with a wide CPI training gap between Memorial and Brookside schools cited as a budget-season priority.
