Mendon commissioners approve budget, easement for water project

Mendon Water Commission advances well project as costs near $20 million. Commissioners Vincent Roy and Kevin Rudden, the only members present, heard from engineers Dan and Scott of Woodard & Curran that a prolonged pump test found an approvable well yield of 438 gallons per minute, or about 630,000 gallons a day, with iron and manganese requiring treatment but no PFAS detected in groundwater. "We want to get out of Hopedale as soon as we can because their costs are killing our customers," one commissioner said, referring to the town's current, costly water supplier for the Cape Road area.

Rough estimates now put full build-out above $20 million, with the town leaning on federal grants rather than betterment fees. Commissioners also approved the fiscal year 2027 water budget and authorized the chairman to sign a water main easement for 23 Cape Road.
