Lunenburg Sewer Commission reviews 16 percent volumetric rate hike and hears duplex sewer extension pitch. Vice Chair Scott Dahl presided at the March 10 meeting, where DPW Director Andrew Valeri confirmed the fiscal year 2027 user rates previously voted by the board: a 5 percent increase to the minimum quarterly charge and a 16 percent rise in the volumetric rate, both driven by treatment costs charged by Fitchburg and Leominster. Home builder Ian Brennan appeared during public comment to present a preliminary plan for three duplexes by right on Pond Street near the former Whalum Road driving range, asking the commission for conditional support of a sewer district expansion; members told him the parcels are outside the current service area and that a citizen's petition must be filed by approximately March 16 to reach the May 2 Annual Town Meeting.

The commission also discussed a separate warrant article, prepared by a stormwater task force, that would establish a stormwater utility under Select Board oversight — a step members called necessary to move toward compliance with a longstanding federal stormwater permit mandate that only roughly five of Massachusetts's 322 municipalities currently meet in full.
