Lunenburg's Zoning Board unanimously approved a sign placement variance for a new professional office building at 1325 Massachusetts Ave. at its July 8 meeting. The board granted a special permit under MGL Chapter 40A Section 9 and Lunenburg Zoning Bylaw Section 250-5.2C allowing applicant Greg Roy, owner of GCJT Realty LLC, to place a monument-style business sign two feet from the right-of-way line rather than the 20 feet the bylaw requires — a distance Roy said would otherwise push the sign nearly 40 feet from the traveled lanes of Massachusetts Avenue. The six-and-a-half-foot granite-post sign, designed with downward-facing LED lighting, will mark the entrance to a 6,000-square-foot engineering office and leasable commercial space already approved by the Planning Board.

The board also re-elected Alfred Gravel as chair and Patrick Allen as vice chair, adjourning at 7:22 p.m.
