Lunenburg's Council on Aging hired a new outreach coordinator and warned seniors of an approaching tax relief deadline at its August 11 meeting. The board welcomed Jan Robbins, a seven-year COA director from Ashburnham, who began August 12 as outreach coordinator, bringing the department to full staff. A board member identified as Deb flagged that the deadline to apply for the senior means-tested real estate tax exemption is September 2, with a maximum benefit of $2,820 that, combined with the state circuit breaker and the elderly exemption, could yield up to $6,740 in property tax relief for qualifying residents over 65.

"Even if you think it's doubtful you might qualify, you might as well go in and check it out," one member said.
