Grafton Select Board approves $5.5 million school roof financing plan

Grafton Select Board commits to full $5.5 million middle school roof replacement over a phased repair option. Member Craig Dauphinais's motion directs $1 million from free cash and $500,000 from capital stabilization toward the project, with the remaining $4 million financed through a debt exclusion bond already on the May ballot, passing unanimously. Finance Committee member Greg Maher told the board a 30-year, $5.5 million bond carries an estimated tax impact starting near 9 cents per $1,000 of assessed value.

Resident Rick Padgett urged the board not to let the roof project "how much cheaper do you want to get it" get tangled with the town's separate operational override. The board also closed and signed its 28-article Annual Town Meeting warrant as amended and learned the state secured an additional $50,000 for Grafton's special education costs.
